In order to select the proper pump, water fountain, waterfall, or other water feature for your pond, you first need to calculate the approximate water volume of the pond. This may sound complicated, but it’s actually fairly simple.
For a square or rectangular pond:
- Length x Width x Average Depth = Cubic Feet
- Cubic Feet x 7.48 = Gallons (Water Volume)
For a round pond:
- Diameter x Average Depth x 7.85 = Cubic Feet
- Cubic Feet x 7.48 = Gallons (Water Volume)
These calculations not only eliminate the guesswork, but also can be used to ensure that the pumps, fountains, and other water features you choose for your pond will be as beautiful and functional as possible.
